Community Service

Fourth Formers planting flower bulbs

The guiding principals of South Kent's Form Program are the four stages of the "Hero's Journey," the last of which is "Service and Moving On". While this final stage is emphasized in the upper forms, each South Kent boy is encouraged and, in some cases expected, to engage in meaningful acts of community service. These expectations are not limited to several days each term, but infuse, in subtle and more apparent ways, everything we do on campus every day. Third formers may take a lead role in on-campus recycling efforts. Boys may volunteer to read stories to faculty and staff children in the library's reading room. Regularly-scheduled "Midnight Runs" take place throughout the year to bring donated clothing and food to the homeless in New York City.

"Service" takes practice, and many of the boys come to realize that the reward may be greater than their sacrifice as they give back to their school, local and national community.
