JV Soccer
Historically, South Kent has had a very strong soccer program. It has at its core sportsmanship, hard work and competitive training. We attempt to instill in each player a love of the game, the enjoyment that is inherent in soccer, and fundamentals which make success more attainable. Each player contributes on some level to the program.
PhilosophyAt South Kent we believe in sportsmanship and in the value of competition. Each South Kent player is selected based on his ability and his conduct on and off the field.
Our goal is to create a team from a group of individuals. We truly believe it is not whether you win or lose that counts, but how you win and lose.
Coaching StaffLou Pereira of New Milford is in his second season as the junior varsity head coach after leading the Cardinals to an undefeated campaign last year. Coach Periera's experience as a player and coach will ensure that all soccer players at South Kent will benefit from superior teaching and be instilled with a passion for the sport. Coach Finberg added, "I am very excited to have Lou working with our younger players and know it is another great step forward for the South Kent Soccer program."
Coach Pereira played for one year at Western Connecticut State University before transferring and playing his final three years at Post University, where he earned his degree. He was a ten year player and four year captain of the famous Portugese America Club of Connecticut. He has coached three different New Milford teams to several division and tournament titles. He has is National "D" license from the United States Soccer Federation.
Coach Paul Mirabito will return to assist Coach Pereira. Coach Mirabito developed a passion for the game of soccer growing up in Madrid, Spain. He brought the love and skill he learned overseas with him when he returned to America for high school and was an All-County performer and captain of his varsity team. Coach Mirabito continued his career at Division I soccer powerhouse Old Dominion University in Virginia on a full soccer scholarship.
Coach Mirabito holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Exercise Physiology and Exercise Science and is a certified fitness specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine as well as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He has played, referee, and coached at many levels throughout his soccer career and continues to have the passion for the game that he had in his youth. Needless to say his experience and expertise will be welcome additions to the South Kent Soccer coaching staff.
